Call TODAY: Vote NO on Price and Sessions

Dear Friends,

We know there’s a lot going on right now. It can be hard for those of us fighting for full equality for the LGBTQ community to prioritize. There’s so much to do! Today, we’re asking that you take the time to make two important phone calls to Michigan’s U.S. Senators.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, January 31), two committee votes are scheduled on nominees for cabinet positions that are likely to have a profound impact on the LGBTQ community. The Senate Finance Committee will vote on President Trump’s nomination of Representative Tom Price to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on Senator Jeff Sessions nomination to serve as the next Attorney General.

Equality Michigan is asking each of you to join us in opposing these anti-LGBTQ nominees by calling Senator Gary Peters and Senator Debbie Stabenow and asking them to vote no on Tom Price and Jeff Sessions.

Senator Gary Peters: (202) 224-6221

Senator Debbie Stabenow: (202) 224-4822

Here are the facts:

Representative Price has had a two-decade long political career of undermining the health and safety of LGBTQ people. He has vocally opposed nondiscrimination legislation for our community and is an outspoken opponent of the Affordable Care Act and the essential protections it provides for LGBTQ individuals, particularly our transgender friends and family.

Senator Jeff Sessions has vehemently and unapologetically opposed LGBTQ equality. He supports a Constitutional ban on marriage equality. He voted against the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and was a cosponsor of the so-called First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), which would allow discrimination against LGBTQ people across America. He voted against both the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention and against repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” And he’s the man President Trump wants to lead the U.S. Department of Justice.

You can see why it’s so important for our Senators to oppose these nominations. They need to hear from you. Please, call today.

In solidarity,
