We talked to tens of thousands of people and over 2,500 took the pledge to vote
Our team had a very successful Pride Month, working with volunteers across the State to attend pride festivals in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Detroit, Ferndale, Lansing, and Saginaw and more! Along the way we were joined by more than 80 volunteers who assisted in our Reclaiming MI Pride efforts. This statewide movement-building and voter engagement campaign kicked off in April and has been full steam ahead for the upcoming Primary Election.
Each pride offered a unique look into the many communities that make up Michigan. While no two prides were the same, it was clear that the LGBTQ+ community and supporters are fired up, engaged, and ready to defend their neighbors. Our team talked to countless people at each pride, engaging directly with folks asking for their opinions on key issues, and hearing about their biggest concerns.
At the forefront of everyone’s mind is safety. The ability to exist, afford basic necessities, access gender affirming healthcare, and have civil rights protections. These anxieties make sense with the unprecedented attacks on LGBTQ+ rights and the large investments in specific anti-trans messaging. In 2025 and 2026 alone, more than 20 anti-transgender bills were introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives. We were able to ensure none of these bills became law because we showed up!
Reclaiming MI Pride is the mission we’ve rooted our organizing efforts in this year. It’s a movement and a statement of authenticity; It’s about being unapologetically queer, supporting and celebrating one another, and channeling our collective energy into civic power. In that spirit we set out with a goal to have 1,700 people from the LGBTQ+ community and our supporters take our pledge to vote in the month of June. A pledge to make their voices heard loud and proud in the pivotal elections to come this year. We’re pleased to report that around 2,500 people have taken that pledge so far!
